Travel and Accommodation Tips Islay Festival Week
With the Islay Festival only three weeks away the excitement for this years event is building up already. Many folk are coming to Islay to enjoy the best the island has to offer; great whiskies, beautiful music, dance, good food, sunshine, beaches, that special festival bottling, friendly locals and much more. Many have booked their accommodation and ferry/plane a long time in advance to be here on time while others maybe have plans but are uncertain if they find accommodation or just haven't made up their minds yet. For the latter group there is good news.
In the last few weeks some of the self catering accommodation providers were faced with late cancellations for the festival week which is a shame because many of these houses could have been let ten times over in the festival week. This means that there are quite a few self catering houses available during the festival week. For an overview please visit the Late Availability page.
If you book accommodation you will obviously need transportation as well. The situation right now is that if you want to bring your car to Islay the ferries are fully booked for vehicles on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th of May. You can try to show up and take your chances on the stand-by list but that doesn't guarantee a space for your vehicle on the ferry. To book a ferry online visit www.calmac.co.uk. Another option is to leave your car at Kennacraig and come to Islay as foot passenger on the ferry. You can have a rental car waiting for you in Port Ellen or Port Askaig if you book in advance.
