South Islay's Festival of the Sea Pictures and Video
Last weekend saw South Islay's Festival of the Sea and although the weather was far from blue skies and sunshine, many visitors of the festival had a great time. There are quite a few pictures available on the Festival's Facebook Page and today I noticed a nice video by Niall Colthart of the launch of a curragh. What that is exactly will be explained in the following text: "Donegal Curragh builder and local volunteers built this curragh as the center piece of the South Islay Festival of the Sea 2012. The craft was built and launched in a week and is primarily constructed of hazel stems to form the frame and covered with tarred cloth. Islay has long since had close contact with the North Coast of Ireland and these boats would have been a common sight around our coasts."
