Roadworks between Tarbert and Kennacraig Start Next Week
Scotland TranServ has announced a two-week period of roadworks on the A83 trunk route north of Kennacraig. The carriageway maintenance is due to start next Monday (November 7), and to finish on Friday, November 18. It is being carried out by Scotland TranServ on behalf of Transport Scotland. The work will be carried out between 7am and 6pm, from Mondays to Fridays. During construction, the road will be reduced to one lane under temporary traffic signals. There will be 10mph convoy working in place for the majority of the works. However, Scotland TranServ has warned that it will be necessary to temporarily close the road on occasions, for a period of up to 20 minutes, to allow surfacing operations to take place at the end of the scheme where the road widths are less than 6m. It has stressed that these temporary closures will be timed to avoid peak times and avoid clashes with the ferry and bus timetables where possible.

Outwith working hours and throughout the weekends, traffic management will be lifted, and local access will be maintained as far as possible. Emergency services will have unrestricted access at all times. Councillor Duncan MacIntyre, Argyll and Bute’s spokesperson for transport and infrastructure, said: “This is a key route, so any work at all is going to cause disruption for a significant number of people. "I am glad to see that measures have been put in place to minimise this disruption as much as possible, but I would encourage motorists should allow extra time for their journeys to the Islay ferry terminal and pay attention to any advisory signs which will be in place throughout the works."
