Ride of the Falling Rain Report

Yesterday saw the latest edition of the 'Ride of the Falling Rain' and although the sun was out at the start and rain was absent it was another great ride. Brian told me they had 53 people signed on for the ride, which is about 14 more than last year. The route was set out by brian and Jeremy and took the riders from Debbie's at Bruichladdich over all the major roads on Islay to places such as Portnahaven, Port Charlotte, Bowmore, Port Ellen, Ballygrant and the roads around Loch Gorm. People from as far as Germany came over for the ride which proves how popular this annual event is becoming on Islay.

Another interesting fact is that almost 400 pounds was raised for the Braveheart Cycling Fund: 'The Braveheart Fund was launched in 2003 by former British champion, Motorola professional and Giro d’Italia survivor Brian Smith. Its aim is simple: to raise the funds to allow young Scottish cyclists, be they roadies, trackies or mountain bikers, to fulfil their potential.'

According to brian some of the folk that joined the ride have already booked their accommodation for next year's ride. I already told brian and Jeremy that if all goes well I will be one of the participants for next years ride, and let me tell you that I can hardly wait!
