Port Askaig remains closed for Calmac Ferries

Due to a major civil engineering project at Port Askaig Pier on Islay, the port wasn't able to receive the Islay Ferries from Kennacraig. Port Askaig is one of Islay's main Ferry ports and is sometimes used as backup for Port Ellen during stormy weather due to it's sheltered position in the Sound of Islay. Due to bad weather conditions the works at Port Askaig are delayed which means that the pier will not be available until 20th April. In an earlier planning 30 March was mentioned as date for the (re)opening. This can mean further delays or cancellations of Ferries during stormy weather. One week ago I heard from Arra on Islay that the Ferry he was on left Kennacraig in appalling conditions and they came as far as Port Ellen but weren't able to enter the port and had to return to Kennacraig.
