There is a new Gallery on Islay located on one of the most remote and yet beautiful locations on Islay. The new gallery, called Outback Art, is probably named after the remote location, and is owned by Petra Pearce who also runs the neighbouring Self Catering Accommodation. I personally can't think of a better place for a gallery, so close to Sanaigmore Bay, with endless views over the Atlantic Ocean as well as towards the Isle of Mull. Mind you, the drive alone is worth the trip and a visit to the gallery can easily be combined with a walk on the beaches in the neighbouring area.

Jeremy Hastings and brian palmer made this the destination of one of their cycling tours and brian was kind enough to bring a camera to take some pictures for this blog. He also sent me the following comments: "The gallery space is beautiful, very well done and currently showing an exhibition of Islay artist Carol Andrew and Terry Barron Kirkwood until the end of February." If you can't make it to the gallery you can check out Carol's work at www.artworkislay.co.uk. The Outback Gallery is only open Saturdays and Sundays from 11 till four for both days. Around Easter time the opening hours will be increased. If you're tired from the journey you can enjoy a tea or coffee with cake and relax into the comfortable sofas. A personal note from Petra: The gallery opened with a exhibition of landscapes by local artist Carol Andrew. The gallery currently stocks jewellery by Rachel Bristow, Pat Young and Wallis Hunter. The gallery also sells prints, cards, tea, coffee and cake. By Easter we hope to have expanded our stock to include ceramics and sculpture. We hope to encourage local talent and to bring the best of Scotland's artists to Islay. Currently on show we have some rare landscape paintings by established artist Terry Barron Kirkwood.
