Old Islay Postcards
I have written about old Islay Postcards earlier simply because I like old postcards, yes here is mr nostalgia again. Back in January 2009 I wrote about Neil Kings Scottish postcards and only a month later I came across a beautiful collection from the University of St Andrews. The Ileach also has a beautiful collection of Islay postcards, I wrote about them in July 2009 and recently a friend sent me around hundred photographs of old Islay postcards, some date back as far as the early 1900s but there are some more modern ones as well. I'm planning to upload them all into one album anytime soon but I want to share a couple of them with you tonight.
This postcard shows Kildalton Post Office and is dated 1904, I believe the building still exists. I could add for myself: going here next week :-)
Port Askaig Stores, undated but must be somewhere in the early 1900s.
Shore Street Bowmore in the early 1900s. The building on the left shows the name of Archibald Cameron and I think there is a good chance that he is the one that took this image. If he had his store in that building is unknown to me and I believe this is now the building of Roys.
