News from Stormcats Islay

If you follow the news on the Stormcats website you might have noticed that business is going well for Gus Newman and his team. New models and deliveries to customers are announced on a regular basis, which is great for Stormcats and good news for Islay too. The latest model to be released from Stormcats is the Stormcat 950 Explorer. The Stormcats Explorer is launched in June 2010, the 9.5 metre Explorer catamaran has just been delivered to a customer in Argyll.

The interior and exterior were specifically designed for the customer’s active lifestyle. The flybridge makes it very easy to manoeuvre around piers and harbours and is a fantastic viewing point to enjoy local wildlife. On the second day of sea trials she performed impressively when taken to the Corryvrecken whirlpool, off the coast of Jura in 25-30mph winds. The galley/cabin has teak flooring with seating for eight people, with four comfortably sat around a folding teak table. Below deck, the layout was custom- made with a luxury queen size bed and two single bunks, which can be folded away when not in use. In the starboard hull is another single bed with a split mattress which can be folded to make a neat study area, which has WiFi technology. The bathroom in the starboard hull has a hot and cold water shower and toilet. All the internal lighting is LED, both economical and stylish and there is a 240 invertor and generator if required. Extra detailing on the deck include anchor points for sea kayaks and locking points for bikes and maximum storage created for fishing or scuba diving kit. All the fixtures on deck are made of hard wearing 316 stainless steel. The deep gunnel height of 0.8 metres is ideal for children, making it a safe family boat. Performance of the boat has not been compromised, with twin Evinrude ETEC 200HP engines and two 78 gallon fuel tanks which give her a long range. She can cruise at 25-27 knots with a top speed of 35 knots in sea trials.
