Lagavulin Islay Jazz Festival 2010

Yes, you have read it correctly. The Jazz festival is now sponsored by Lagavulin instead of Black Bottle. At the end of July the organisation sent out a press release which I'd like to share on the blog:

One of the most extraordinary musical event in the Scottish calendar has evolved with a new look and a new sponsor - Lagavulin. Like so many classic events, the Festival follows a formula – using the entire island as a backdrop, a programme of uncompromising artistic integrity and musicians who are inspired by the uplifting environment and sense of expectancy from the audiences. All combining to create instant magic.

In 2010 the programme features:

  • the lyrical pianism of Zoe Rahman
  • the feel-good saxophone of Jesse Davis
  • the Blue Note inspired Mercy, Mercy, Mercy
  • the award-winning Scottish guitarist Graham Stephen
  • the late night funky vibes of Melting Pot
  • the commanding tenor of John Burgess
  • and the 20s and 30's jazz of Nova Scottish Jazz Band
  • plus much much more

The festival will be held from 17-19 September and will be all performed across the island in a mix of unique settings: village halls, distilleries, bird sanctuaries, and small bars and inns. The Festival also offers a Taste of Islay element in the programme including oysters, handmade chocolates, Islay Ales, the famous homebaking and of course Lagavulin - the definitive Islay single malt Scotch whisky. Check out the full programme on the website or 0131 467 3660. Weekender Tickets (priced at £60) are on sale now from 0131 467 3660
