Jolomo Islay Exhibition in Glasgow

Jolomo, or John Lowrie Morrison as he was called when he was born in 1948, is one of the best known and best selling Scottish landscape painters. His beautiful and colourful landscapes will brighten up many walls in many homes of people all over the world ever since he started to paint full time in 1997. Since then he has become one of the most widely shown and collected of today's Scottish artists. He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2011 New Year Honours for services to art and charity in Scotland. He also founded the Jolomo Award in 2007 - the prestigious annual award for Scottish Landscape Painting.

John has also visited and painted the landscape of the Isle of Islay. In the The Extra he said: “My first drawing expedition to Islay was in the 1960s. It still informs how I see the island even though I’ve made many dozens of painting trips there since. Islay is often called a jewel of an island, which sums up its exceptional beauty, but what I particularly like is its close proximity to Jura, with the wonderful Paps of Jura dominating the skyline.”

He will be displaying his latest work at the Gatehouse Gallery in Rouken Glen Park — in a show called John Lowrie Morrison: Islay — A Jewel of the Hebrides. The solo exhibition will run from 8 – 30th March 2014. The opening hours are Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday: 1.30pm – 5.30pm, Saturday: 11.30am – 5.30pm.
