James Deane Touring on Islay
It's been a while since I wrote about James Deane, one of Islay's excellent photographers. The last time in fact was in March this year when he was interviewed by Rachel MacNeill from Wild and Magic Islay. Rachel asked him about his new website while trying to learn more about James, who recently came to Islay. The regular readers of this blog know who James is but for the new readers I'd like to go back to the first pictures James posted online, which are the ones that gave him a lot of publicity and were perhaps a push in the direction of starting his own business.
In the autumn of 2010 the Islay Natural History Trust ran a wildlife photo competition. The winner was chosen by Lord George Robertson of Port Ellen, a very keen photographer himself. 157 photographs were sent in and the winner was a picture of a Buzzard and a Hen harrier interacting in front of a backdrop of Wild Geese. The picture was taken by James Deane and since then his name was made on Islay. Soon after that James was kind enough to send me some images which I could use on my Islay Blog and the picture that made a huge impression was the one from the Snow and Stars on Islay, soon followed by some atmospheric winter scenes from Islay. Also the night sky at Bunnahabhain was a stunning image which we probably all remember. Continue reading....
It's now one year after the initial launch of James's website. In the meanwhile I had the pleasure to meet James serveral times and we even went out to Saligo Bay on a rather cloudy evening in May to catch a nice sunset but we ended up smoking cigarettes, talking photography and enjoying the beauty of Islay's west coast. James has sold a lot of pictures since he started and recently he revamped his website, not that the old one wasn't good but the new one does indeed looks even more smashing as you can see when you visit www.jamesdeanephotography.com
