Islay Studios now on Islay House Square

At the start of the new millenium, July 2000 to be precise Mark Unsworth moved to Islay and the business of Islay Studios was born. Every year since, the business has grown with pace, to date that growth stands at 600% and that has put big pressures on the location at the Pier in Bruichladdich. That growth was possibly part aided by the fact Mark was a short listed finalist in the landscape photographer of the year competition in 2007.

From today (Sat), Islay Studios will now trade from Islay House Square which will offer 50% more wall space for the display of framed photographs and art from some of the best artists on the West Coast.

Willy Inglis, factor for Islay Estates adds 'Islay Estates are glad to be able to help a young Islay based business to flourish, especially in the current economic climate and is yet another attraction for visitors to the island to enjoy whatever the season or the weather'.

The existing location at Bruichladdich is going to be retained as additional manufacturing space.

For visitors to the gallery today, locally based artist Justin Ruthven-Tyers will be on hand to discuss his work which also includes a range of hand made furniture.
