Islay Sessions 2013
The Islay Sessions is just a couple of weeks away. The weekend of Friday 8th to Sunday 10th will be a weekend full of outstanding music from across Scotland (and Ireland). A line up that consists of a Peatbog Fairy and numerous past winners of the BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year has got to get you interested.
Jarlath Henderson Band
When only 19, Jarlath had already been a three time All-Ireland Champion Uilleann Piper and in December 2003 he became the first Irish musician to win the prestigious BBC Young Folk Musician Of The Year. He has just been announced to share the stage with Nicola Benedetti amongst many other stars at the opening concert of Celtic Connections 2014. Continue reading....
Ross Couper & Tom Oakes
Fiddle and guitar duo, Ross and Tom have recently performed to great acclaim across Europe with sell-out tours of Norway and Denmark.
Hannah Beaton
Hailing from the Isle of Skye, the beautiful voice of Hannah Beaton will be melting away the icy November nights with her range of gaelic songs.
Daniel Thorpe & Innes Watson
Astounding fiddler Daniel Thorpe will be providing foot stomping tunes with the familiar face of Innes Watson, a member of what may seem like almost every Traditional band in Scotland - that has to be a sign.
The format of this year's festival will hold true to its title offering island wide sessions, workshops and the traditional Saturday night concert. However, this year Laphroaig Distillery will very kindly be hosting the first event of the festival, a family ceilidh evening in the distillery hall. The family ceilidh will be a cosy and informal evening mixing our line up with some students from Fèis Òigridh Ile agus Dhuira. The Sessions team also invites any performers local or visiting to take to the floor for a song or a tune.
