For markets and marketing we go to the Islay and Jura Tourism and Marketing group who are organising a completely new event on Islay which is the Islay and Jura producers market on Islay House square Bridgend. The market will be held this Friday, 5th June from 10.30am until 4.30pm, and I think, and hope, it has the potential to become a returning event in the summer season. I can only speak from my own experiences but as a tourist on Islay you want to buy produce from the island to get a taste from the island and to support the local economy, and a producers market with local produce is something that was missing, until now that is. This new initiative is a trial event and if successful it will be held several times during the summer season.
What and who can you expect on the market? Craigens Oysters, An Gleann Tablet, Chutneys & Jams, Andrew MacEachern's Crab, Justin Ruthven Tyres garden furniture, Islay Estates Venison Baquettes, Home Baking, Neil Campbell Butchers, Fresh Hen & Guinea Fowl Eggs & Community Garden Produce. Enough to please everyone I should say!
It's a short step from Markets and Marketing to Motors, given the fact that Paul Graham, rally driver in his spare time, was responsible for sending me both folders. The newly to form Islay and Jura Motor Club will organise a meeting to formalise the club on Sunday 7th June, 3.30pm at the Port Mor Centre, Port Charlotte. If you are interested in any form of motor vehicle such as classic, vintage, sports, modified, kit cars and would like to join a group of 'like minded' people you are invited to come along and if your vehicle is road legal you can bring it along too. If you don't have a vehicle but are interested you are welcome too!
So if you are interested in any of the above you can contact Paul Graham by email or phone at +44 (0)1496 850587. For the producers market you can contact Maggie Woodman by email or phone at +44 (0)1496 302596.
