Islay Photography at Holyrood Exhibition
Last weekend saw Islay represented visually at the Scottish Parliament building in Edinburgh with a joint photographic exhibition by Mike Russell MSP for Argyll & Bute, Lord George Robertson of Port Ellen and Mark Unsworth of www.islaystudios.co.uk. The exhibition was part of the Festival of Politics taking place over the weekend.
In her opening address Linda Fabiani MSP stressed the importance of strong links between politics, art and culture and this was demonstrated over the weekend with various displays, debates and live music. The exhibition which was due to last over the weekend is now going to stay in place for another six weeks at the request of the Parliament so visitors to the building will still be able to see the images. The three photographers involved have put in place plans to tour the exhibition to various parts of Argyll including Bute, Campbeltown, Dunoon, Oban, Mull and of course finishing here on Islay, so giving access to a large proportion of the local area. More about that later on this blog.
The websites of two of the three photographers are: www.blipfoto.com/Feorlean where you can find the photo blog of Mike Russell MSP. Mark's photo blog can be found via islaystudios.wordpress.com. I haven't found a website with pictures of Lord George Robertson but the picture below comes from his hand and is one of the pictures in the exhibition. It shows Lily from Caol Ila, Christine Logan's mother, at the age of 99, outside her picturesque cottage at the Sound of Islay.
