With the start of the summer season the Islay Natural History Trust in Port Charlotte has opened its door again providing an excellent end highly interesting exhibition of Islay's plant and wildlife for both young and old. Becky writes: "We are pleased to announce that we are open in the same venue in Port Charlotte for another season. It’s too early to know what the occupants of our tanks will be this year so watch this space . . . and come and visit us soon."

The opening times are Mon to Fri 10.30 am to 4.30 pm with nature rambles taking place every Monday from 2 pm to 4 pm at various locations around the island. An overview of the rambles with times and places can be found in the online Islay Event Calendar. Booking is not required for any ramble and more details can be obtained from 01496 850 288. Stout footwear and appropriate clothing required. Sorry, no dogs. We look forward to welcoming you at the Centre or on a ramble soon.

The first ramble (picture) of the season took place yesterday at Ardnave. Becky wrote on the INHT blog: "What a great start to our season of rambles! I was delighted when 13 people turned up at Sanaigmore for our ramble today - each of them equipped with a pair of binoculars and oozing with enthusiasm. We stayed out in the warm sunshine for longer than usual, such was our reluctance to return to the cars. The highlight has got to be the ever present summer plumaged Great Norther Diver."
