Islay's Michael Hastings 7th in National Cycling Race

Michael Hastings of Port Mor Wheelers was racing in the National Criterium races yesterday in Paisley. It was a long journey for him. Over 400 competitors raced around the town centre. In The Youth C group 25 Hardy youngsters did battle royal for the crown! A solid bunch was created for the first 10 laps and then the pace was too high for all but 7 riders. Three became chasers including Michael from Port Mor. It ended with a coming together and a bunch sprint in which Michael placed 7th. This was a great result for the wee Port Mor Rider as it was his first race of the season. The other boys have been racing on the mainland all summer and so are well used to the cut and thrust of close and combative races such as these. Michael is now looking forward to the cyclo-cross season beginning in October.

Congratulations Michael, or should I say "Spartacus"? Well done!
