Homecoming Scotland 2009 Islay Gaelic Concert
Islay’s Còisir Ghà idhlig Ìle, the Islay Gaelic Choir, will join with the Glasgow Islay Gaelic Choir and Islay Pipe Band in a concert sponsored by Iomairt Chille Chomain, celebrating Homecoming Scotland 2009 on Saturday 18th April at 7:30pm in Bowmore Village Hall. The evening’s Fear an Taigh will be Islay’s well-known son, George Robertson, Lord Robertson of Port Ellen, an enthusiastic advocate of Islay’s cultural life.
The two choirs will each sing their own Gaelic pieces, as will the prizewinning Còisir Ghà idhlig Ìle’s Ladies Choir. There will be Gaelic songs by solo and duet performers and the choirs will also join to sing as a massed choir. If the song ‘Cearcall a’ Chuain’ written by Calum and Ruairaidh Dòmhnallach of Runrig fame is a favourite, be sure to come along ! The sound will be fantastic.
Following the concert, a ceilidh dance with Islay Accordion and Fiddle Band will be held in the Lesser Hall of Bowmore Hall. Tickets for the concert, which include ceilidh entry, are available from Port Mòr, Ionad Chaluim Chille Ìle (the Columba Centre), and Iain Laurie, Port Ellen, or at the door if still available.
