I met Ron Goudie almost a year ago, in the autumn of 2008, in his house at Laphroaig, locally known as the old excise house, where we had a very pleasant conversation. It was only a couple of months earlier that Ron and his family made the move to Islay where he started as a golf teacher at the Machrie Golf Links. Ron sent me an email a couple of weeks ago and said: "We moved to Islay a year ago Friday 21 August 2008, so we raised a glass to our first year on Islay. Emma, Alasdair and myself are really happy here and have been made very welcome. I moved from Glasgow to south of London at the age of 3 with my parents due to my fathers job and lived in the Epsom area until the move to Islay. I worked as a Club Professional at Epsom golf Club in Surrey before moving to Islay to be the resident golf professional at The Machrie Links." From what I read in the Ileach and hear from Ron he is doing really well on Islay. Ron already has quite a few regular golf students on Islay and he is already expanding his business to another neighbouring island. A couple of months ago he started his golf teaching lessons on the Isle of Colonsay, every Wednesday in the summer season. Continue reading.....
The reason for my visit to Ron last year was the fact that he needed a new website for his business and a couple of months ago I completed his new site. The url for Ron's new website is www.islaygolfteacher.co.uk and there is quite a lot of information to be found. On his welcome page Ron writes: "Welcome to islaygolfteacher.co.uk, the website of PGA Golf Professional Ron Goudie. Ron is the resident professional at The Machrie Hotel and Golf Links on the beautiful hebridean Isle of Islay. The Machrie is a Championship Links course (currently No 62 in the UK, Golf World 2008 rankings), it is a pure, natural links course and in the opinion of many is the best course you’ve never heard of!"
On the lessons page you will find information on private lessons as well as group, family or corporate lessons for up to twelve people. If you want to surprise a friend or yourself you can find golf related gifts such as golf balls, clothing and gift vouchers in the gift ideas section.
Due to the fact that Ron can update the website himself you are likely to find regular news updates in the news section of his website. In the first news item Ron writes about his first year and the fact that they will start a bed and breakfast in the near future. In my opinion a really nice location for a b&b with the three Kildalton distilleries within walking distance. Ron welcomes you to his new website at www.islaygolfteacher.co.uk
