Fundraisers for RNLI and Islay Pipe Band

Islay has a lot of charities that rely on gifts from people and businesses. There are many ways to raise funds to support these charities and other groups that need money. A fundraiser is one way and that's what the wives and girlfriends of the Islay lifeboat crew did. They got together and held a pool and domino competition in aid of RNLI sos day. This is the biggest fund-raising day of the year and they held the competition and a fantastic raffle which raised £1334. It was held on the 29th Jan and they have now collected in all the money and what a fantastic result. Diageo also helped them and they have to thank them, as well as all the people who have donated and played on the evening.

There is also an upcoming fundraiser for the Islay Pipe Band. The band would like to thank fellow Ileach Robert McKenzie who is running a fundraising ceilidh for the band in Glasgow on the 23rd April. It is at Hillhead Rugby Club with lain Prentice’s 'Sound of Islay' playing. Some members of the pipe band will be there as a mini band to play as well. Phone band secretary James McEachern if you would like a ticket on 01490 850392. For more information check their website on www.islaypipeband.com
