Islay Festival Week Programme 2010

Friday May 21st
Family Ceilidh, Ballygrant Hall, 7.30 – 11pm, featuring The Islay Accordion and Fiddle Band and many more of our younger talented locals. £5.00 per adult, £2.50 per child

Saturday May 22nd: Lagavulin Open Day
Great North Run/Walk through Dunlossit ending at Ballygrant Hall with hot chocolate and home baking.
Lifeboat open at Port Askaig 12-2pm, an opportunity to see the lifeboat up close halfway round your walk!
Opening Dance at the Ramsay Hall, Port Ellen showcasing an up and coming new band ‘The Simple Touch’. Doors open at 10pm. Please note that this is a licensed event for over 18s only. £10.00 per head. Tickets will be available from The Booth and at the door on the night

Sunday May 23rd: Bruichladdich Open Day/ Port Ellen Maltings
Bowls competition at Bridgend; register at 1.30pm for a 2pm start.
Friends of Laphroaig Event.

Monday May 24th: Caol Ila Open Day
The Whisky Tasting Ceilidh, held at the Ramsay Hall, Port Ellen. Show off your whisky nosing talents and have a bit of fun. This year Islay Ales and The Islay Chocolate Company will also be joining us - a taste of something different! With local artists and the fantastic new band ‘The Simple Touch’ to entertain you after all of your efforts! Whisky Tasting from 7.30pm-9pm. £10.00 per head including a free dram.
The After Show Stramash, 9.30-1am £7.00 per head. This is a licensed event. No tickets are sold for this event, just turn up on the night and enjoy! Continue reading......

Tuesday May 25th: Laphroaig Open Day
Eric Faulkner (of “The Bay City Rollers” fame) at Lagavulin Malt Hall, 8pm onwards. A great mix of acoustic folk and a few laughs... £10.00 per head. This is a licensed event. Tickets will be available from The Booth.
Piping Recital at Islay House, Bridgend 7pm; a rousing recital from a top piper, our very own youth pipe band have been invited too. This event is not licensed and is generously sponsored by Islay Black Bottle and hosted with the kind permission of Mr Fredriech. £6.00 per head.

Wednesday May 26th: Bowmore Open Day/islay Ales Open Day
The Fèis Ìle Gaelic and Traditional Evening at the Gaelic College Bowmore, 8pm – 10am. A beautiful setting for some beautiful music and singing, highlighting the best of Islay’s culture and music. Refreshments. This event is not licensed. £5.00 per head.
Eric Faulkner, Take Two at Bruichladdich Hall, 8pm onwards. Another chance to enjoy Eric Faulkner - £10.00 per head. This is a licensed event. Tickets will be available from The Booth.
RSPB walk at Gruinart Texas Scramble at Machrie

Thursday May 27th: Jura Open Day/kilchoman Open Day
Clootie Dumpling Ceilidh at Portnahaven. 8pm – 1am. Entertainment by The Islay Accordion and Fiddle Band and other local artists. Dance your feet silly then enjoy some traditional Clootie Dumpling. This is a licensed event. Entry £6.00

Friday May 28th: Bunnahabhain Open Day
Donnie Munro at Laphroaig Distillery. A fantastic chance to see Donnie in action; an open air event to be enjoyed by all. Come along and see why Donnie is one of the giants of Scottish music. Tickets are available from The Booth and at the door on the night. Book early to avoid disappointment. Tickets on sale from 1st April 2010.

Saturday May 29th: Ardbeg Open Day
Fun on the Green, Port Ellen 2pm onwards... something for everyone, kicked off by Islay’s very own award winning pipe band. Dancing displays, music, bouncy castles, The Re-jig Race, Beat the Goalie, Splat the Rat and much more. Stalls, food, candy floss and fun! Make a wish... come and set off a Chinese wishing lantern with your very own wish, the sky is the limit! Join us on the White Hart Beach in Port Ellen at 10pm, £4.00 a lantern. Bring the kids and see if your dreams can come true!
The Final Fling, a Disco in the Ramsay Hall, Port Ellen with Ringo. Dance away the final hours of the festival. 10pm -1am, this is a licensed event and is for strictly over 18s only. Last admission 11.30pm. £8.00.

Sunday May 30th
Guided walk. Bowling Competition at Port Ellen. 1.30pm registration for a 2pm start.
