Islay Ferry: One and a Half Vessel Service to Continue this Week

After the Hebridean Isles ferry came in touch with the pier in Kennacraig, now well over a week ago, she needed to head back to dry dock under her own steam in order to be repaired. The Islay Ferry Service was then down to one ferry, the MV Finlaggan, and many folk saw their Islay journey cancelled or rescheduled. Calmac then chartered the Red Princess to ferry cars back an forth between Kennacraig and Islay while the owners of those vehicles travelled as foot passenger on the Finlaggan. That situation will now last at least until Friday as Calmac has just announced a single vessel timetable from today, Monday 1st of August, to Saturday the 6th of August. The single vessel timetable will operate as follows:

07:00 Kennacraig to Port Ellen
09:45 Port Ellen to Kennacraig
13:00 Kennacraig to Port Askaig
15:30 Port Askaig to Kennacraig
18:00 Kennacraig to Port Askaig
20:15 Port Askaig to Kennacraig (delayed from 18:00/18:15 on 4th & 5th August and early 20:45 on 6th August)

Please note that there is no service from Kennacraig or Islay to Colonsay or Oban on Wednesday 3 August or Saturday 6th August. Hopefully the Hebridean Isles will be repaired and back on the Islay Service starting Sunday the 7th of August. We'll update this page as soon as we have any information.

Update 3rd Aug
In the meanwhile a group of Islay locals have written a letter to Calmac and Transport Scotland about the current severe ferry problems. The letter is available online

Update 4th August
The one vessel schedule now includes Sunday 7th of August as well. Full schedule available here
