I've been running a test for quite some time now with a new type of social media service, an online daily newspaper called the "Islay Daily Newspaper". In case you're wondering, I'm not becoming a second Ileach, but this is merely a nice little online gadget which turns out to be rather interesting. Paper.li is owned by a company called SmallRivers and they describe paper.li as follows: "paper.li organizes links shared on Twitter and Facebook into an easy to read newspaper-style format. A great way to discover content that matters to you - even if you are not connected 24/7!" Paper.li is still in the Alpha phase but from what I read on the website it's a promising new service: "SmallRivers is a privately held startup incorporated in Switzerland (Lausanne) and located on the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology EPFL campus. Co-founded by Edouard Lambelet and Iskander Pols, the company is focused on facilitating the discovery of relevant content and other people of interest on the web. Paper.li is our latest development, and by far the most promising. This is why the company is now entirely devoted to making it even better..."
Because following any new IT developments is part of my work, and my interest, I decided to give this service a chance. My Islay Daily Newspaper is compiled by the tweets from myself and people that I'm following. Most of the people I follow through the Isleofislay Twitter Account are Islay or area related so the newspaper which comes out daily, around 4pm, will contain news from the region. So far the paper has 10 subscribers and has been read more than 1300 times. If you're interested you can sign up as well and you get a daily email to notify you that the "Islay Daily Newspaper" has been published. Another way to be notified is to follow me on Twitter. I hope you like this wee initiative and if you have any suggestions or remarks feel free to contact me. For now I welcome you to the Islay Daily Newspaper ;-)
