Ireland Visible from Islay
Now don't hold your breath, this is not a rare happening. On an average clear day you can see parts of the north coast of Northern Ireland rather well. The distance between the two is approx. 24 miles. There are also exceptional clear days when Ireland looks so much closer to Islay. A few weeks ago the conditions were exceptionally clear and when I came down from the Kilchiaran to Portnahaven Road on the west coast of Islay I could easily see the entire northern coastline of Ireland. One day later when I was on the Oa the conditions were again extremely clear and looking towards Northern Ireland I could see the reflections of the sun on what looked like buildings.
