Islay and Jura have been selected as one of seven areas in Scotland for Comunn na Gà idhlig’s Iomairtean Cà nain. These community language initiatives are designed to help increase the number of Gaelic speakers and the opportunities to use Gaelic in school, home, business and leisure activities. Lynn MacDonald has been appointed local officer for Islay and Jura – she is an enthusiastic Gaelic learner who some of you may know through her Alexander Technique classes and work with the RSAMD. Following an excellent presentation by Dòmhnall Morris, CnaG’s Development Manager, at the last meeting of the recently reformed Co-Roinn Ìle, Dhìura is Cholbhasa it was decided that this group would form the Steering Group for the Iomairt and will see several organisations and individuals with an interest in Gaelic development working together on new and existing projects. The group will work together with Lynn to establish priorities for the next few months with Fergus Muir as Chair, Iseabail Mactaggart Secretary and Eion Brown Treasurer. Anyone interested in the new Iomairt can contact Lynn at ICCI, phone 810818, or email lynn@cnag.org.uk. Look out for us at the Islay Show on 12 August!
