Sometimes you find a video that is just perfect. This is the case with the video I have included below and if you consider that it isn't a real video with moving scenes it must be really good, and I think it is! The video shows the west of Scotland with scenes from most of the islands in the Outer and Inner Hebrides as well as images from the West Highlands. The beautiful images show why this part of Scotland is so very attractive and the music from Runrig is happy and compliments the images very well. The video is made by people from the Gaelic Rings website: "The Gaelic Rings is a collaboration by a group of travel partners whose shared enthusiasm for the Gaelic language and culture has led to the creation of six Rings – or round trips – taking in the islands from Islay in the south to Lewis in the north and the West Highland mainland from Kennacraig to Ullapool."

The six Gaelic rings or Gaelic journeys can be found on the Gaelic journeys page. On this page you will also find the Islay Gaelic Ring "Kennacraig to Islay, Colonsay and Oban", written by Islay's own Iseabail and Margaret Mactaggart. I can highly recommend to read their story, it's beautifully written and gives the best account I have read so far of this lovely ferry journey. I particularly like this paragraph: "CalMac journeys are never ordinary. For an islander, no matter how mundane the reason for travel, it’s not like getting the No 32, or the 0817. It’s always an adventure. The clanking, the heaving, the deep rumble as the engine revs and the ropes strain, the shouts as tankers are secured, the bellows of calves in floats – the sheer mechanics of the journey mean that this can never be an ordinary mode of transport." And I'm sure it won't be for Islay's many visitors either. For now I wish you happy moments with this beautiful video.
