Today is the official launch of the Bowmore Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships Islay. To mark the start of this special event there will be a grand parade through Bowmore Village tonight. The parade starts at 5.30pm and will be followed by a BBQ. All the countries that participate will parade down the Main Street carrying their national flag and end up in the grounds of Bowmore Distillery where they will display each flag in a specially built podium for the duration of the Fly Fishing Week.
Yesterday the captain of the Scottish team was involved in a road accident with an American tourist. A quote from the website: "Scottish team captain John McCallum was involved in head on collision with an American tourist. We have included to reinforce the message to all competitors to drive with extreme care to allow for tourists who may or not be paying attention. We can report that all walked away from this accident."
The official championship website will be updated during the event with news, reports and results! There is a full programme available to download with plenty of information and beautiful images too! The official website is available through this link. The Port Ellen Angling Club is heavily involved in the tournament and their website provides lots of information as well.
