Buy Donald M MacLeod CD and Support Islay Charities

Support Islay Lifeline Charities during your stay by buying a fabulous Islay CD!!

For those searching for the perfect gift while visiting Islay, there’s no better choice than a CD of the BBC recordings of the late Donald M MacLeod of Islay. EVERY PENNY RAISED will go to two charities which are lifelines for Islay and beyond: Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) and the Royal National Lifeboat Institute Islay (RNLI).

This is creating a buzz amongst music lovers at home and abroad with Islay shops reporting they are ‘’selling like hotcakes” and sales requests coming from as far afield as Melbourne and Los Angeles! Donald was described in the Oban Times as “ Islay’s most famous export after whisky”. He was born and raised in Portnahaven, a crofter and Master Joiner. He and his wife Katie loved the place and its people. He was a winner of the Junior and Senior medals for singing at the Islay Mod and a National Mod Gold Medallist. In 2011 he was inducted into the Traditional Music Hall of Fame. Read more...

Nick Harvey, Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance Fundraising Manager said “It feels a fitting tribute that money raised through the Sale of Donald’s CD will help SCAA to keep on saving and improving lives across the country, particularly in remote and rural areas”. David MacLellan, RNLI Coxswain added “It is just great that the talents of a local artist will go to help local charities in this way.  The RNLI is very grateful for the support”.

The new CD is appropriately entitled “ Gad Chuimhneachadh “ (Remembering You ) which is also one of the signature tracks. It comprises a range of favourites from the Highlands and Islands. It also includes some Islay songs which many feared were lost forever such as the humourous “Oran na Tosgaid” (The Song of the barrel). It tells the true story of a barrel of whisky washed up near Portnahaven.

You don’t need to speak Gaelic to appreciate this fabulous Scottish musical treat. The accompanists are all also world class making for a beautiful album. A chance to buy a lasting momento to play in the car – and to make a difference to Islay’s communities!!

The CD is available across Islay shops and Ardbeg Distillery, at Oban Music Argyll Square, the Gaelic Bookshop Mansefield place Glasgow, Concorde Music in Perth. Orders by post can be taken via the RNLI (Christine) on 01496840261 or via Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance k.farmer@scaa.org.uk. It is also hoped to have the CD available at a number of distilleries during festival week so take home a fantastic musical treat and help two incredible Islay-supporting charities!!
