Cantilena’s annual Chamber Music Festivals runs from Sunday 30th June to Friday 5th July here in Islay. A total of seven concerts will be given at venues throughout the island. With the exception of the lunchtime concert at the Outback Gallery, Sanaigmore, where light snacks can be purchased, all the concerts start at 8.00 pm. The Festival opens with a piano recital by Havilland Willshire at the Columba Centre, with various pieces ranging from Schubert to Schoenberg. The rest of the week also balances early music with some from the romantic period.

One of the highlights will be the concert at Laphroaig on Monday 1st July, featuring three young professional musicians who will each play solos, then play together with the ensemble. The final concert at Bruichladdich Distillery on Friday 5th sees the return of an old Cantilena favourite, the stunning Mendelssohn Octet. This concert also features local artiste, Rebecca Brown.
