Campbell Butchers Port Ellen Islay

One of the advantages of running the Islay Directory is that you get to know new Islay websites. Usually people send me an email mentioning that they have a new site and now there is a possiblity for people to add a new site themselves. That's how I found this one, although I had seen it before some time ago. The new site belongs to the Campbell Butchers on 56 Frederick Crescent, Port Ellen. During our visits we have been to his shop several times and enjoyed the excellent quality meat. I was really surprised to find out they have quite a big website with a few interesting options. What I like most though is their slogan: Pleased to meet you, meat to please you! They are also a member of Meat Islay, but until the new Abattoir at Avonvogie is fully licensed they get their meat from the mainland. You can find their meat in several restaurants on Islay such as The White Hart Hotel, Lochside Hotel, Croft Kitchen and Lochindaal Hotel. And their products are also available at the Ballygrant shop and Debbies Mini Market, Bruichladdich. Continue reading....What can you find on their website besides the homepage that says: "Neil Campbell re-opened the butchers shop at 56 Frederick Crescent in February 2006. Since then he has provided the best quality meat to the residents of Port Ellen and the rest of Islay with the help of fellow butcher Neil MacAffer. Both of them bring years of experience to the business which means you are assured of the best service possible - service which was recognised last year by being nominated for the 'UK FOOD TV' Local Food Heroes award." In the about section is an interesting aspect for visitors which is that you can order online on the website, and have the fridge in your accommodation stocked just before you arrive on Islay. Now that's what I call good service! Furthermore you will find all prices online and there is a section with special offers. Besides the shop in Port Ellen they have a mobile shop as well. On Wednesday you can find them at Caol Ila between 2.45pm - 3pm and Keills between 3.10pm - 3.30pm. On Thursday they are in Bruichladdich between 11am - 11.30am, Port Charlotte between 11.45am - 12.15pm and in Portnahaven between 12.45pm - 1.15pm. Oh and if you're interested in an Islay clock, you can order one online too. It probably tells you what time your order will be delivered!
