Ballygrant Inn, the welcoming Inn & Restaurant in Ballygrant run by David Graham and son Ewan, was nominated last year as a finalist for the Scottish Licensed Trade DRAM Awards (DRAM stands for Drinks Retailing And Marketing), Glenmorangie Whisky Bar of The Year. Unfortunately David and Ewan didn't win but they were commended as a finalist.
This year however things changed for the better. Dram Scotland wrote on their website: "The crème de la crème of the Scottish licensed trade gathered in Glasgow on Monday 2nd July to find out who were the winners of the 2012 DRAM Scottish Licensed Trade Awards. The pub industry’s equivalent of the Oscars were handed out to bars and pubs from all over Scotland at the ceremony which was held at the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow. Said DRAM Editor, Susan Young, “It was a great night, and it was a real testament to the success story that is the Scottish licensed trade. This industry is dynamic, professional and forward thinking, and the people picking up the awards, and the finalists, are a credit to the industry.â€
This year The Ballygrant Inn was a finalist and they managed to win a prestigious award, a Bronze Medal in the Whisky Bar of The Year 2012, the category was sponsored by Bowmore. This means that the Ballygrant Inn is the 3rd best Whisky Bar in Scotland, a title to be proud of. Ewan and David were at the Awards Dinner in the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow, where they received their Bronze Medal and framed certificate, see picture.
The other major Licensed Trade awards take place in November and these are the Scottish Licensed Trade News Awards. And again the Ballygrant Inn had formal confirmation that they have been short listed as a potential finalist for their Whisky Bar of The Year Award. Tomorrow they are to be visited by the Judging Panel so it's busy times for everyone to get everything in tip top shape and hopefully they can look forward to another award this winter.
