Back From Scotland

We arrived home on Tuesday from a fabulous (almost) three weeks in Scotland. The first week was spent in Cove in Wester Ross. This tiny village is located on the shores of the north facing Loch Ewe which played in important role in WWII. This part of Scotland is very quiet, has lots of hills and a couple of interesting places such as Gairloch, Poolewe and Ullapool. We roughly discovered the area between Shieldaig and Torridon in the south, Kinlochewe in the east and Ullapool in the north. As you can see from the images below and at the end of this post, the scenery is just beautiful, specially whith the glorious weather we had.

Glen Torridon Wester Ross

We arrived on Islay on Saturday evening after a beautiful warm sunny day with a beautiful sunset seen from the ferry. Our Islay holiday started on Sunday and was gone before we knew it. Time went so incredibly fast and we realised that one week on Islay is much too short, specially after the three weeks we spent in spring. Because the weather wasn't as good as we had hoped for we did had enough opportunities to visit friends which was great. Continue reading....

The changeable weather on a few days was also great for photography and I have taken some really nice images of sunrises, white tailed Eagles, the record number of Geese at Loch Gruinart and the beautiful scenery. Witnessing the spectacular sunrise at the Sound of Islay accompanied by the roaring stags on Jura and seeing the Eagles from very close was quite a thrill.

Dawn at Loch Ewe over the Sutherland Mountains

On Saturday morning we left from Port Ellen and spent a couple more days in Dalmally, just south of Glen Coe and Rannoch Moor. On Sunday we visited Stirling Castle together with friends in beautiful weather which was a fabulous experience. The views from the castle are breathtaking. We left Scotland on Monday after a cracking clear frosty night and enjoyed the mist in the glens and the beautiful autumn colours before we arrived in Hull for the ferry home. It was another memorable trip and we will be back on Islay in spring 2011, for three weeks :-)
