Ardbeg Islay Half Marathon

Today, the 1st of August, is the day of Islay's Half Marathon. The Islay Half Marathon started in 1986 and involves a 13 mile 192yd run from the village of Bowmore on Islay out to Islay Airport and back in a circular route. One of the runners is Jim Lutomski from Port Ellen and he is fundraising for self-help Africa. Jim: "Once again I'm running for Self-Help Africa who make so much good happen with such a little efffort from folks like me. It's reckoned that it takes only about £100 to lift a rural African family out of poverty and into relative dignity which throws our lives into perspective- my running shoes cost more than that! Last year I was running to give thanks for emerging from years of M.E. to a better level of health , this year I may continue that forward leap a stage further. Many runners say it's a spiritual journey as much as a physical feat. For me that means practical solidarity with my sisters and brothers worldwide. I invite you to share my wee gesture and so share the joy of moving forward together to better things in this world of ours. Thanks for your support, blessings, Jim."
