Ardbeg Winner of Drammie Award for Best Distillery

The Scotch Blog announced the winners of the 2008 Drammies a couple of days ago and Ardbeg was one of the Islay distilleries that did well. After winning a drammie last year for best new product with Ardbeg Airigh Nam Beist and being 3rd in the awards for best packaging/marketing campaign for Ardbeg Mor, this year Ardbeg Distillery won the prestigious drammie for Distiller/Blender/Independent Bottler of the Year, Bruichladdich was second. The Scotch Blog wrote: "Ardbeg was once a distillery with a cult. It’s now getting the recognition it deserves. And with Big brother Glenmorangie taking 3rd place, the People at Glenmorangie should be very proud." Congratulations to the folks at Ardbeg and to join the celebrations I have created a panorama image of Ardbeg Distillery today, which you can see below. Click on the image for the full panorama.

There was even more success for Ardbeg, they were 4th in the category Best Packaging/ Marketing Campaign with their Ardbeg Blasda and in this category Bruichladdich Distillery was second with Bruichladdich Octomore. Both distilleries also appeared in the category most innovative new product. Octomore was second and Ardbeg Blasda 4th. The category best new product was won, surprisingly, by a Japanese whisky called Karuizawa 1971. Bruichladdich was, again, second with Octomore. Overall a good result for Islay again although the island won less drammies than last year. Good to mention as well is the winner of the best new product which is a blog called Caskstrength.net.
