Yesterday I wrote about the amended ferry timetable due to the Isle of Arran being deployed on the Oban-Coll_Tiree route. I also wrote that it was the third time this year that the Kennacraig to Islay route was serviced by one ferry but when I checked my blog posts I found out that this is already the fourth time. The first time was at the end of March 2009 when the Isle of Arran grounded at Oban and needed urgent repairs. The second time was on the busy bank holiday weekend at the end of May for unknown reasons and the third time the Isle of Arran was deployed in the north to make the first Sunday sailing to Lewis when the Lewis Ferry broke down. As far as I know the Isle of Arran is designated to be redeployed elsewhere when problems occur which can become very inconvenient when this happens too much, specially in the busy tourist season.

The information on the Calmac website yesterday mentioned an altered schedule for two days. Today Calmac updated their website with an amended one-ferry timetable from Monday 31st Aug – 6th September 09. Elliott Bowman of Islay Sea Shipping told me that the MV Isle of Arran is away to cover the MV Clansman (Coll and Tiree Route) as she in turn will cover for the MV Hebrides (Western Isles), which is going to dock.
